Botox Q&A

What is Botox?
Botox is an injectable medication that reduces the appearance of moderate to severe crow’s feet and frown lines in adults. During a roughly 10-minute appointment, an injection into your facial muscles using tiny needles at specific areas temporarily paralyzes the muscle, leading to smoother looking skin.

How many injections do I need?
The specific number of injections you need varies, based on factors such as the severity of the creases you wish to address and your desired results. For crow’s feet, Dr. Yavari injects Botox in three areas surrounding your eyes. Frown lines usually require five injections in your forehead, one in the procerus muscle and four in the corrugated muscles.

How long do the results last?
Botox results may begin to appear within 24-48 hours of treatment for moderate to severe frown lines. Results may last up to four months. At that point, or once the corrected symptoms start to return, you may schedule additional treatment.

Do the injections hurt?
Both Dysport and Botox injections typically bring only mild discomfort that feels like a tiny pinch and diminishes quickly. That said, if you have particularly sensitive skin or simply wish to avoid pain as much as possible, you may request ice or a topical numbing cream beforehand.

Are there any side effects?
Dysport and Botox cause side effects in some people, but most are relatively mild and short-lived. These include temporary pain, swelling, or bruising near the injection sites. Other possible side effects include tiredness, headache, dry mouth, neck pain, vision problems, and allergic reactions. For your safety, talk to Dr. Yavari about any medical conditions you have before undergoing treatment. Certain nerve and muscle conditions may increase your risk for side effects.
